Pretty crazy draft this year right? Definitely a lot of trades and a lot of unexpected picks. The only picks that didn't surprise me were No.1 and No.2 (Irving and Williams). Let's talk about how the Knicks fared in the draft.
With the 17th overall pick in the draft, the Knicks selected Iman Shumpert, who played for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets for three years. This was a decent pick by the Knicks, but I don't think it was the best "fit" for them. Don't get me wrong, Iman is a great defender and showed incredible athleticism in his three years at GT. The problem with Iman is that he doesn't make the right decisions on the offensive side of the ball. In addition, he doesn't have an outside shot, which obviously doesn't help the Knicks at all. If the Knicks can somehow keep the ball away from him on offense, he will do just fine. I'm looking forward to seeing if they can do that.
With the 45th overall pick in the draft, the Knicks selected Josh Harrelson, who played for the Kentucky Wildcats for four years. This was an awful pick as the guy wasn't even slated to get drafted! According to his stats, he shouldn't make the team. They'll most likely send him down to the D-League because he obviously isn't ready for the NBA this season. He averaged 6.4 ppg in his senior year, 6.4! However, he did average 8.8 rpg in his senior year, so that's something to look out for. In his prime, he might be good for 5 to 6 rebounds a night, not a bad total, but he's not gonna be a starter anytime soon.
Overall, the Knicks deserve a C for this draft.
Comment and tell me what you think they could have done better at the draft!
Until next time,
