Jozy Altidore left practice yesterday with a sprained ankle and this could be a potentially huge blow to the US chances in the upcoming world cup.
When the cuts were originally made, the roster was already somewhat shaped by injury and fitness. Charlie Davies is the most notable omission due to his spot upfront in many of the US recent successful runs of matches before his car accident (See unrelated video below). However, Brian Ching was also left off of the roster due to a hamstring issue. This is more important that one might realize because if Altidore can't go, Ching would have been the most viable option to take over as the holding forward in the mold of Brian McBride. If Jozy is forced to miss any game in the world cup, it would probably mean a change in strategy, something along the lines of 5 midfielders and only 1 striker up top. Let's hope the ankle heels in a week and a half but anyone who's ever had a sprained ankle before knows this isn't enough time.
