Jose Reyes Wants To Be a Met Forever; Thanks Fans For Support

Reyes_4503

Jose Reyes has been a huge spark for the New York Mets this season. It seems like every all star on the team has been injured except for him. Without him, the Mets wouldn't be playoff contenders, or even close to .500.

As of now, June 24, he is batting .338 (leading NL) with 3 home runs and 31 runs batted in. But that's not all, he has 107 hits (leading NL), with 13 of them being triples (leading the majors).

He has stolen 26 bases this season (second in MLB), only getting caught 5 times and has 56 runs (leads the majors).

Reyes also leads the majors in at bats with 317 already. He is also second in the NL in total bases, which is a major stat for leadoff hitters.

But if that's not enough for Carl Crawford money, Reyes is 11th in NL in slugging percentage with only 3 home runs. His on base percentage is 12th in the National League with a .382, meaning Reyes is on base about 2 out of 5 times which is fantastic for a lead-off hitter.

An amazing Jose Reyes stat is that he has collected a hit and scored a run in 42 of the Mets' 75 games this season.

For Reyes' career, his on base percentage is .338. This year, .382. That is a major difference.

Reyes is the only reason why Mets fans go to games at this point. His fielding plays are brilliant, and watching Reyes run around the base path is so thrilling to watch. He even brought a tradition to Queens, with the claw.

In mid April, Fred Wilpon stated that Reyes would not get Crawford money. Now it seems like the Mets would most likely do anything for Reyes (not getting any ones hopes up).

Recently Jeff Wilpon told general manager Sandy Alderson, he has no restrictions with the money and/or players.

"He'll have all the opportunity in the world to bring anybody he wants in," Wilpon said. "The way for him to do that is to bring the ideas to us and we'll talk about it. But he does not have restrictions. We'll deal with everything on a case-by-case basis."

The7Line has been making shirts and signs that say "Don't Trade Reyes." Reyes has seen the shirts and signs, and has acknowledged to the fans that he has.

Jose Reyes recently stated that he wants to be a Met for all his life, and likes the support.

"I just want to say thank you for the support," Reyes said to his fans. "Keep supporting me because, like I have said, I want to be here. I appreciate it from the fans because they want me here."

"Nothing changed," Reyes said. "I want to stay here. Like I've always said, I want to be a New York Met all my career."

Sandy Alderson understands that all Mets fans want the MVP candidate to stay, and he does too.

"We will respect his wishes and hopefully pick up negotiations at the end of the season," Alderson said.

Reyes doesn't want to negotiate until after the season is over because he doesn't want his contract to be a  distraction to the team. We can see that Reyes is a team player and a leader who cares about winning, and turning this franchise around.

"Right now I don't want any distractions," Reyes said. "I just want to continue to play. We're going to have plenty of time in the offseason to make this happen."

Many reporters/media were saying that if Mets are playing poorly, that Reyes would be gone, but that was never the case.

"All I wanted to suggest was if we're playing lousy, it doesn't mean Jose is gone," Alderson said. "That's basically the point I'm trying to make. If we are playing lousy, are we a seller? Generally speaking -- maybe, probably."

Reyes has brought life to the Mets this whole season, shocking the crowd with all of his plays defensively, and offensively. He is also a game-changer on both sides of the ball. Reyes has been involved in almost every Mets comeback or win this whole season. He is right in the middle of things.

All the teammates always have nice things to say about Jose, on how he is playing so well and all, and how he is a good teammate.

Fans, keeping wearing your "Don't Trade Reyes" shirts and making signs for him, because you will only increase the chances that Jose stays as a Met.

If Reyes wants to stay, in which he insists he does, then Alderson must pay him whatever it takes. Mets fans would be so upset, and the Mets would possibly lose some of their fan base.

They wouldn't be able to sell any tickets without him. All in all, Reyes is deserving of Carl Crawford money, putting up MVP like numbers, fans want him, and Alderson should do whatever it takes to keep Jose as he is in his prime.
