Still in shock from the article title? Could it be that the man who is the face of the WWE, the man who has carried the company on his gigantic back the last few years, has found his way to the sidelines just months before Wrestlemania? We're not sure yet.
However, when any kind of injury news regarding John Cena comes out, it's important to let the public know. So far, here's what we have.
Last night, John Cena was performing at a house show in a cage match against Wade Barrett. Yes, Barrett is actually alive. We must remember that the TV product is only part of what WWE puts out for the fans.
What we're being told is that in the match, Cena injuried his leg at about the 20 minute mark. Though it was probably near the end anyway, the finish was changed on the spot and Barrett was forced to submit to the STF. To those in attendance, it was obvious that the injury was legit, as some have reported they saw ring announcer Justin Roberts say "that's not good."
With medical personnel coming down to the ring, Cena finished his match and took a mic. He told the crowd that it looks like he could be out a while, but he hopes not. He then said he refused to be carried out of the arena, and proceeded to slowly limp out, taking almost 10 minutes to get up the ramp.
Given the facts, it's clear that something went wrong. At this time, we are unsure of the severity of the injury, but as soon as I know something, you'll know something. We're all hoping that Cena is ok, both for reasons of true human care and selfish reasons of wanting to see his new feud with CM Punk play out.
When I get word of how severe the injury is, I will report it to you and we'll talk about how his time away affects the storyline he's in and the rest of WWE programming. Stay tuned.
