According to the Associated Press, high school star Jeremy Tyler has decided to play professional basketball in the country of Japan. He will be playing with the Tokyo Apache of the Japan professional basketball league.
The 19-year-old Tyler was asked to play college basketball once he got out of high school after being a starter there. But he decided to play overseas with the Israeli team in the Maccabi Haifa. He signed a $140,000 contract while averaging 2.1 points and 1.9 rebounds per game in 7.6 minutes.
If Tyler were to finish college basketball this year, he would be a projected number one pick in the 2011 NBA Draft.
But I guess that isn't going happen.
Tyler will be playing for former NBA coach, Bob Hill.
“We are extremely excited for Jeremy to join our team in Tokyo,” the team said in a statement. “His athleticism and size will be a major presence in our frontcourt this season.”
Maybe in a few years Tyler could give the NBA a shot. You never know, the young power forward could come back to America and sign with an NBA team.
He should give it a try once the season with the Apache is over.
