The Indianapolis Colts are cheap. There, I said it. Listen, when guys are in need, all Indianapolis does is sign former seventh-rounders or players we have never heard of. But many players like Blair White, Jacob Tamme, and Javarris James have been good pick-ups. But many of the rest have got to go. Indianapolis has realized that this season.
I think in this year's free agency, the Colts should at least go for one big free agent.
On the receiving end, they don't need anybody. But they need people on the offensive line. Here are some people that come up to mind that will be free agents this off-season:
Jared Gaither - Gaither was on the trade block and is a big dude. The Colts need big offensive lineman. Gaither will most likely be serving in as left tackle, unless if the Colts do re-sign Charlie Johnson. I think letting Johnson go would be a lot better, though.
Jammal Brown - Brown is also an option, too. He played right tackle this season for the first time in his career after blocking the blind side. If the Colts could sign him, it could be huge pick-up, but not as big as the next guy.
Matt Light - Light may be coming off the worst season of his career, but I still consider him among one of the best offensive lineman in the business. Light is 33 years old, however, so Indy may want to keep a close-eye on that one.
Other notable free agents include Willie Colon, Doug Free, Khalif Barnes, Mario Henderson, Jeremy Trueblood, Jonathan Scott, and Adam Goldberg.
But those are just tackles. Logan Mankins, Davin Joseph, and Ryan Kalil could be considered for the guards along with Alan Faneca, Olin Kruetz, and Justin Blalock. But I think Indy may be going for the range of Richie Incognito or someone like that.
The secondary could use some big help, too. The Colts may not have the money at this moment to get Nnamdi Asomugha or Champ Bailey, but they should at least try. Releasing some players could help, like Bob Sanders, who has taken a huge chunk of cap space for Indy. Carlos Rogers and Ike Taylor also come to mind. Indianapolis could also draft a corner in the second round as well as going for a guy like Drayton Florence.
Indianapolis could also use some help at linebacker. It seems that Phillip Wheeler isn't the answer for outside linebacker. If Indianapolis decides to stick with Wheeler and/or Angerer, then I'm fine. But if not, then go for Rocky McIntosh or Barrett Rudd. Takeo Spikes, maybe.
Defensive tackle is a huge hole in the Colts' defense. I would be love it if Indy could acquire a guy like Richard Seymour. But most likely not. Brandon Mebane, an underrated defensive tackle, could help. Indianapolis should also consider Aubrayo Franklin. Alan Branch and John Henderson also come to mind.
It is most likely the Colts release McAfee this season. Going for a punter like Adam Podlesh would be nice.
Bill Polian said he will bring in targets to help Manning. But before Indianapolis goes for these free agents, they need sign Manning first. It will be hard re-signing the others. I think they will manage to bring in Addai, Mathis, and Wayne to new contracts but the rest could be gone.
Either way, the Colts need to find more weapons to return to Super Bowl form.
