The Islanders came back to Long Island after a bad road trip to Florida to play their divisional rivals, the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Penguins shut out the Islanders 3-0 at the Nassau Coliseum.
The Islanders out-shot the Penguins 33-28, but couldn't break through a hot Marc-Andre Fleury who scored his 20th career shutout in the Penguins fourth straight win.
Pascal Dupuis started off the scoring at 17:06 of the first period on a breakaway. Former Islander Richard Park made it 2-0 21 seconds into the second period after John Tavares turned the puck over at the Islanders blue line. Park turned and fired a wrist shot over a screened Evgeni Nabokov.
Jordan Staal finished off the scoring with an empty-net goal to give the visiting Pens a 3-0 win over the Islanders.
The Penguins penalty kill remained perfect since the season started by killing off all three Islanders power-plays.
The Islanders penalty kill was strong as well, killing off both Penguins power-plays including a double-minor by Marty Reasoner for high-sticking Staal.
