Akron Head Coach Terry Bowden
Terry Bowden has a career 146-80-2 career coaching record and is the son of legendary Florida State head coach Bobby Bowden. Coach Bowden is the current head coach of the Akron Zips. He took over the program in 2012, which had a 2-22 record the previous two seasons and had lost by an average margin of defeat of 27.5 points per game in 2011.
In 2012, the Zips were 1-11 under the first year of coach Bowden's system, however, the team lost 6 games by less than 7.5 points per game. Entering 2013, the Zips were poised to make strides towards success and almost defeated the #11 ranked Michigan Wolverines in Ann Arbor, losing 28-24 in the "Big House". The Zips went on a three game winning streak at the end of the season and finished their 2013 campaign with a 5-7 overall record and 4-4 in MAC play.
The team is building the foundation for success under head coach Terry Bowden and the 2014 season has many Zips fans optimistic about the state of the program.
Coach Bowden has done a fantastic job at Akron and has won the most games since the 2008 season for the university. He has the team going in the right direction and entering 2014, the Zips can be a contender in the conference.
