Interview With 2014 NFL Draft Prospect-Auburn Tigers MLB Jake Holland
Jake Holland had an outstanding career for Auburn University from 2010-2013. He was a three year starter for the Tigers and had 174 total tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks with 2 interceptions in his career. Jake and his backup Kris Frost (Soph.) combined for 105 total tackles, making that position (MLB) the single most productive position in DC Ellis Johnson's revamped defense. Holland has great size standing 6'1 240 lbs. and can make plays from sideline to sideline. He plays the game with intensity and his emotion keyed the Tigers dramatic run to the 2013 BCS National Championship game last January.
Holland has had three different defensive coordinators in his tenure at Auburn (Ted Roof, Brian Van Groder and Ellis Johnson), along with 4 different LB coaches and made a seamless transition to each coordinator's philosophies. He progressed year in and year out and has a huge upside. Currently, Holland has been working out at Auburn University while pursuing his degree. Jake had a solid pro-day performance last week, running a 4.7 (40 yard dash) and bench pressing 225 lbs. for 20 reps.
Holland is very solid at the point of attack and uses his hands very well in shedding blockers to get to the ball carrier. Holland has a great "motor" and plays each play from start to finish. He is a smart football player that could make a huge impact in the right NFL system and defensive scheme. Holland had more tackles in 2013 than teammates DE Dee Ford and DT Nosa Eguae.
