Jeff Saturday had surgery just a few days ago. According to the procedure, he had to remove a “loose body.” But now there’s questions arising of when the four-time Pro Bowl center will return as the anchor and the leader of the Indianapolis Colts’ offensive line and protect franchise quarterback, Peyton Manning. Owner, Jim Irsay, answered these questions.

“We’ve seen guys come back in two weeks; you see some guys come back in six weeks,” Colts owner Jim Irsay said Wednesday at the team’s training camp at Anderson University. “You’re hoping it’s the shorter side of the scale.”

“Maybe you’re on crutches two to three days and maybe recovery is anywhere from four to six weeks,” Colts’ insider, Jack Farr, says.

Saturday is definitely needed back and this could affect a lot. According to the Indianapolis Star, Saturday and Manning are ranked second for most games played between a center and a quarterback.

No News Yet on Peyton Manning’s Contract

We all know Peyton Manning is going to get a contract sooner or later. Team President Bill Polian has a saying.

“There is no deadline, there is no timeline, Jim [Irsay] never said there was, I never said there was, [agent] Tom Condon has never said that there was,” Polian said. “I talk to Tom all the time, sometimes about Peyton. There have been conversations and there will be.”

Manning is entering the final year of his seven-year $98 million contract and is expected to be the highest-paid player in NFL history once a new contract is in place by owner Jim Irsay. Polian was asked if he was the best player in the league.

“He’s certainly among the top four or five. I don’t get into those [ratings], that’s a parallel universe question. I can’t tell you who the greatest players of all-time are. I can take a guess on the top 100, I’m probably old enough to have seen 75 of them and have an opinion, but I don’t get into who’s the best. That’s in the eye of the beholder,” he said.

Once Manning’s deal is in place, Reggie Wayne and Robert Mathis hopefully don’t need to worry anymore.

Pollak, Richard Stepping It Up

With Saturday out in the time-being, it is time for Mike Pollak and Jamey Richard to step it up in training camp and help lead the offensive line to protect Peyton Manning. With the time Saturday is believed to be out for, he could miss the opener against the Houston Texans on September 12. This means a lot of playing time for Richard and Pollak.

“Our team does a pretty good job of handling those situations,” coach Jim Caldwell said. ” ‘Don’t get bent out of shape. Let’s just find a way to get better. Make no excuses. Zero.’ ”

Bob Sanders Back?

During yesterday’s training camp practice, Bob Sanders made a nice play as he picked off Peyton Manning’s pass. He is showing signs of him old self and could rule for the 2010-11 season that is coming up.
