IMPACT Player Of The Week - 6/2/2011

Kendrick and kazarian

In my personal life, I hate drama.

People that know me often wonder how I was born and raised in New York given my relaxed demeanor that I carry at all times.  New Yorkers are supposed to be on edge, looking for drama to slap them in the face.  I simply cannot do that, and maybe wrestling is part of the reason why.

You see, I enjoy watching the drama of wrestling feuds.  I enjoy seeing grown men solve their differences through fighting because it's the farthest thing from reality that I can imagine.  I am not a fighter, so this is all fantasy to me.  That said, I admire the athletic ability and presentation that professional wrestlers bring to the table when they fight out their differences in front of an audience.  It is this ability to entertain while throwing around other grown men that keeps me watching wrestling as opposed to CSI or worse.......The Jersey Shore.

Yes, I enjoy the wrestling on my wrestling shows and regardless of whether a company chooses to rebrand to remove the word wrestling from their name or whether they choose to focus their branding on it, I expect to see quality wrestling matches when I watch their programs.

While not every match is high in quality, tonight those who watched Impact Wrestling were graced with one of the better TV matches I've seen in a while.  Booking aside, one match stood above all the rest and stole the show for me.  Heck it was just plain fun.

The match was between Brian Kendrick and Kazarian for #1 contendership of the X-Division Title and despite the lame finish where no one actually obtained that spot, the time spent before the draw was the best time spent on the entire show.  These guys can flat out wrestle and entertain, something that is always necessary on a wrestling show.  I thoroughly enjoyed their match and if that type of thing became a staple on Impact Wrestling, I'd be a happy man.

With that said, Brian Kendrick and Kazarian are this week's IMPACT players of the week and very well deserved.  On a show where "wrestling matters", these guys flat out wrestled.  You can't ask for anything more.  I just wish more of the show was like those glorious minutes.
