Hypocrisy in criticisms over Pacquiao vs. Mosley

The easiest thing to write is negativity. Yup! Just say this person sucks or this fight is garbage and there you have it- an easy story. No talent or imagination required.

Many have criticized pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao for choosing Shane Mosley as his next opponent, which is kind of ironic since just a year ago when Mosley fought Floyd Mayweather Jr., these same people like Yahoo! Sports' Kevin Iole were touting it as the biggest fight of the year. More so, Iole and his clique of veteran boxing writers decided that Mayweather's victory over Mosley deemed him worthy of being called their pound-for-pound best boxer in the world.

Last time I checked, Mosley was not damaged at all during that fight, nor in his next fight against Sergio Mora wherein people felt he won a contest that controversially ended in a draw. So Pacquiao, who is naturally smaller than Mayweather and Mosley chooses to fight Mosley in May and next thing you know people like Iole are calling for fans to boycott Pacquiao's next fight.

Some hypercritics and sensational writers even say that the fight is the kind of fight that 'destroys boxing'. With all this drama I've been reading, sometimes I wonder if these writers would rather be thespians.

First of all, this is definitely a better fight than Pacquiao vs. Margarito. And judging by the way the Pay-Per-View buys went and the excitement it brought to boxing, who's to say Pacquiao vs. Mosley will destroy boxing? The same people that said Y2K meant the end of the world. Fools. You will die before boxing ever does, and that's a fact. So quit talking about boxing ever dying. You won't live to see it. If anything, those who encourage people to boycott boxing cards are the ones who truly destroy boxing.

There are actually several people who are interested to see this fight. Yes. There are other intelligible life forms on this planet that actually disagree with the notion that Pacquiao vs. Mosley is absolute garbage.

Tell that to any of the many Shane Mosley fans that he does not have a chance at beating Pacquiao. All they have to reply to you is that they've heard the same thing prior to the night Mosley destroyed the then seemingly invincible Antonio Margarito. Say that he's old and has lost his reflexes etc. etc. Then why the heck did people praise Mayweather so much for beating him? It's either hypocrisy or the lack of logic. If it were someone who said Mayweather's win over Mosley was BS because Mosley was shot that's telling me to boycott Pacquiao for fighting Mosley now, then I'll see where that person is coming from. But someone who was singing Mayweather's praises for beating Mosley and now saying Pacquiao should be ashamed? That to me is pretty absurd.

Styles make fights. Pacquiao and Mosley are throwback warriors that love to get the last punch in on any exchange. Mosley actually has more punching power and better technique than Margarito on top of the fact that he's a veteran that has beaten the biggest names in boxing in their primes. Since Mosley beat Margarito more impressively than Pacquiao and the fact that Floyd beat him not too long ago, there are several people out there who simply want to gauge how Pacquiao would do against Mosley and vice-versa. Besides, how come Pacquiao isn't entitled to a tune-up fight? Mayweather has had many. IF you disagree, then what the heck do you call Mayweather-Marquez and his fight against this very same guy people criticize Pacquiao for choosing as his next opponent? Epics? Get outta here!

These are two big names that are actually willing to fight each other. Now am I saying this is the best fight that can be made? Hell no. I repeat, HELL NO. But am I calling for the villagers to light their torches and bring out their pitch forks and asking for this fight to get burned down? Shoot! I'm not old enough to have witnessed those things, and even if I were like some of these writers, why would I? You can never write off a great fighter like Mosley and anytime Pacquiao is in the ring with someone who is willing to bang, it makes for great boxing.

Because if you respect the game of boxing and it's elite fighters, you know Mosley has a decent chance at beating Pacquiao. It's not unusual to have fights where you have a significant underdog, which to me Mosley is, but who's to say he can't hurt Pacquiao if Margarito's body punches sent the Filipino icon to the hospital days after? Heck, I'm not selling this fight nor am I getting any revenue at all from it's sales, but as a boxing fan, I'm buying it. Why not? Mosley has a better chance at beating Pacquiao than Buster Douglas ever did when he fought Mike Tyson. How about how people said Dela Hoya would kill Pacquiao? Yea yea, you heard it from those same experts too.

Simply put, what I'm telling you is this: Let the cynics and the pessimists wear their dark veils and black lipsticks and pay them no mind. Pacquiao vs. Mosley is an interesting fight and will be fun to watch for any fight fan who wants to see action in the ring. For starters, it will definitely be more exciting than Mayweather vs. Mosley and Pacquiao vs. Clottey- two of last year's most anticipated cards.

And honestly, what obviously better fight was there for Pacquiao anyway? Really? Think about it. Berto? You think he's ready for Pacquiao? I dont. Plus, he'll need to work on his fan base first. Martinez? Now that's a BS fight. Martinez is too big. Marquez? Drama-wise yes. Okay let me put it this way, who wins Mosley vs. Marquez at 147? nufsed.

Truth is, the one fighter that has the best chance of beating Pacquiao, isn't interested in fighting him right now. So instead of blaming the guy who is actually fighting and taking on bigger guys, why not appreciate the fact that he has done what nobody else in the sport really dares to do? I don't see other big named guys fighting champions from 2 divisions higher than theirs. It's easy to bitch and whine and ask for people to boycott a potentially explosive match-up, but if that's really what you feel, then stop talking about it since you care so little for the fight and keep your negativity to yourself. Quit spoiling the fun for everybody else. So if you see any of these writers on fight night covering the fight they encourage you to boycott, please feel free to walk up to them and call them a 'puto'. Just kidding. Hypocrite would suffice.
