This video below is of Marv Albert's opener for the Bulls/Knicks 1992 Christmas day game. This video brings back memories to my childhood when basketball was played way more physical. If you drove down the lane on those Knicks Anothony Mason, Charles Oakley and Patrick Ewing made sure you were on your behind.
Now if you simply touch a defender standing there it's a foul or a flagrant 2 foul and you are kicked out of the game. This is why I always feel David Stern ruined the NBA with all the rule changes. The NBA used to be fierce and that's why there are a lot of people out there who say, "I used to watch basketball."
Back then you get into a fight and you get suspended now thanks to Ron Artest if you get into a fight it's the end of the world and the NBA are a bunch of hoodlums. However, if you get in a fight in the NFL and both players helmets get ripped off and someone gets caught with three punches in the face - then that's just players showing their aggression. Does that make any sense? No.
I still love the game now I am just simply reminiscing on how it used to be. I miss the fights that would break out in the games and I also miss the hard fouls.
Side note: There is still nothing that pumps me up more for a basketball game then the NBA on NBC's music.
