It appears rushing for 1,087 yards and scoring 12 TDs isn't more important than the Brigham Young University Honor Code.
BYU's top rusher Harvey Unga won't be back in 2010 as he voluntarily withdrew, as did his girlfriend (BYU basketball player Keilani Moeaki), for violating the honor code.
Speculation is rampant on the blogs. Many suspect it's because he and Moeaki are having sex ... a big no-no for the Mormons. There are even rumors that the girlfriend is preggo. Seriously, look at the photo of Moeaki and tell me you wouldn't be doing that also. Honor Code? Did you see my girl, coach?
BYU's press release didn't offer up much.
It did however, provide a sanitized quote from coach Bronco Mendenhall.
"I fully support Harvey and his decision regarding his personal situation. The possibility of not having Harvey on the field in the fall would certainly have an impact on our team, but my main concern right now is in supporting Harvey."
Mendenhall's bigger concern may actually be what he's going to do without Unga, the 6-foot, 237-pound running back, who is the school’s all-time leading rusher with 3,455 yards.
