Homecoming For Terry Collins Allows Him To See Father Bud Collins

Manager of the Mets, Terry Collins grew up right around Detroit, in Midland, Michigan. The Mets are now on to their second game of a three game series versus the Detroit Tigers.

92 year old and father of Terry Collins, Bud Collins, is going to make a 2 hour trip to Comerica Park, home of the Detroit Tigers to see his son manage an impressive team.

Terry originally thought his father was going to be in New York for opening day at Citi Field, but he didn't feel like traveling at that time.

Bud apparently watches every game the Mets play.

“I have a box here that the kids bought and hooked up to my TV, so I can get every game,” Bud Collins said. “That’s where I am, in my chair, watching the game every time Terry is on.”

Bud has been a huge influence on Terry Collins, and if it wasn't for Bud, Terry wouldn't be managing the Mets.

“I was stuck as a player-coach in Triple-A, and was considering quitting,” Terry Collins said. “My dad said, ‘If you are not having fun, get out. But if you love it, keep doing it. There are a lot of people who get up every morning who dread going to work. You’re not like that.’ He just said to stick with it, and here I am now.”

Bud Collins was also shocked when he heard the news that Terry was going to be managing the Mets this season because in 2010, Terry was the Mets minor league field coordinator.

Bud also had a few things to say about Collins and the Mets as a team.

“I know it’s a tough job and I know the team has got problems,” Bud Collins said. “But it appears to me like he’s doing a pretty good job, and [fans] seem to think he’s doing a pretty good job. I’m pretty proud of him, naturally...The team is doing OK for having all the injuries and the quality of their players. They’ve got some good players and then they’ve got some mediocre players. That’s just my opinion.”

More then likely, SNY's Kevin Burkhardt will be interviewing Bud Collins at the stadium. What a homecoming this has been for Terry.

Bud will be at Comerica Park for the last two games of the three game series live.
