Ok when watcing the video keep in mind that these are the Buffalo announcers and watching it the first time it is hard not to react the way they did but watching the replay towards the end it is not as scary as it first appeared.
Hammer received a game misconduct and was ejected from the game but the question is was it truly a dirty hit and does a player with no track record of dirty hits deserve to be suspended?
“It’s tough to say,” Hjalmarsson said. “I didn’t think I was going to be kicked out of the game but it is what it is. The decision is in the league’s hands now. It’s a fast game out there.”
“You could argue if it was even a penalty,” Quenneville said. “He wasn’t looking at the guy, [he] was playing the puck. He was compromised. But the hit, there was no intent at all.”
Even the other side wasn't overreacting to the hit:
“He’s not that type of player, but he made a mistake, obviously,” Buffalo coach Lindy Ruff said. “He made a big mistake. He caught a player in a tough spot. It’ll be addressed.”
If he does get suspended I would expect only a game or two since he did lose out on half of the game. According to reports Jason Pominville was up and walking and thankfully only has a concussion. I would expect to hear the league's ruling Tuesday and definatly before Wednesday's game against the Predators.
