Harvick wins in Exciting Finish at Auto Club Speedway

The Auto Club 400 at Fontana was a pretty quiet race. In fact, the record was set for most consecutive green flag laps at Fontana with only a few one-car wrecks (Andy Lally, Bobby Labonte) throughout the day.
But the same cannot be said for the finish. Jimmie Johnson got a run on Kyle Busch after the last caution on Lap 170. While the two fought it out for position, Kevin Harvick closed the gap and passed them both on the last lap. It was the only lap of the entire race that Harvick led, but it is the only one that counts.
Johnson and Busch were uncharacteristically calm after the race. Kyle was overheard apologizing to his crew over the radio. He took the blame for the loss and said that he “gave the race away unfortunately”.
Though Busch won the Nationwide Series race on Saturday and led the most laps today, he said the car never felt completely comfortable.
“We couldn’t get the right speed that I needed. We were too tight in the corners and too loose on the straightaways”.
Jimmie Johnson echoed Busch’s car woes. “I hate losing”, Johnson said. “I did everything that I could today but even when I was tight I was loose”.
Johnson finished 2nd, followed by Busch, Matt Kenseth, Ryan Newman, Carl Edwards, Clint Bowyer, Brian Vickers, Kasey Kahne, and pole-sitter Juan Pablo Montoya round out the top-10.
