Roy Halladay continues to win, as do the Phils, tonight 1-0 over the Nationals.
Roy Halladay went 7 strong innings, giving up 8 hits and 3 walks (not his best, but also not his worst) but did not allow a run. Not only did he drop his ERA to 2.16 on the season, but he improved to 16-8. This is significant because that matches the most games any Phillies starter has won since Jamie Moyer won game #16 in 2008. Anyone remember what the Phils did that year? Yeah, I thought so. Madson (7th hold) and Lidge (17th save) closed the door on this one.
There wasn't much to talk about at the dish tonight. Not a single Phillie had more than 1 hit but Jayson Werth set the Phils up with his 41st double in the third inning and also added a walk. His OBP is sitting a tad (a tad, a tad lloyd!) underneath .400.
The Giants look to be finishing off the Cardinals and the Braves staged a 9th inning comeback tonight leaving the Phils with a 1 game lead in the wild card and back 2.5 games in the division. Tomorrow night its Strasburg-Kendrick at 7:05. Seems like a mismatch, but so did Marquis Halladay.
The last time a Phils starter won 16 games this happened:
