If this is the first you are hearing about the ongoing Daniel Bryan (Bryan Danielson)/WWE saga, you have not been visiting this site enough! This story has swept the WWE Universe, leaving many to wonder if the whole thing is legitimate or if this is the most elaborate work perhaps ever. Since the last time this story was updated on here, nothing has changed in terms of this being one of the most confusing sagas I've ever seen.
First off, John Cena goes to bat for Daniel Bryan. Cena tweeted that he was sorry to see Bryan go and that he would have rather settled their differences in the ring and he hopes that WWE will bring him back so they can do that. It was reported that Cena may have done this to appeal to the internet wrestling fans, as that group is the most vocally negative in regards to Cena, and supporting an internet darling was Cena's way of relating to this part of the WWE universe. On the other hand, a report came out linking Cena directly to Danielson's firing, citing the spitting incident as something Cena felt was disrespectful. While I have no doubts that Cena has enormous clout backstage, I'm not so sure on this one. I do believe Cena is trying to get in good with the internet wrestling crowd, but I don't think he'd ask for a rising star to be fired for something that simple. Cena is a company man and it seemed that Bryan was good for business, so why drop the ball on him so soon? Some have likened the situation to Ken Anderson's firing, but Anderson had a reputation for being sloppy in the ring and had a history of injuries to prove it. Bryan is still relatively new to the WWE locker room and seemingly respected as such. He has not been dangerous in the ring (perhaps outside of it with the tie choke), but Cena and Orton have been typcasted by hardcore Ken Anderson fans as "tattletales", so that select group will buy into this story. I do not, but then again, it's all very strange at this point.
Most thought the be-all-end-all would be how Bryan's character factored into Monday's Raw broadcast. Viewers quickly learned that Daniel Bryan "felt remorse for the attack last week and was no longer part of the group as a result". This seemed to be a cheap opt out, given that Bryan was the most vicious in his presentation of the assault, but if this is indeed real, his absence needed to be explained. Anyone thinking "he's not part of the company, they NEVER mention people who aren't part of the company so he's not really fired!", I might direct you off of your high horse and in the direction of Team Laycool who have referred to Mickie James more than once since her dismissal from the WWE. Then of course, there is the mystery of the limo driver, but I assure you that Bryan was not that guy. If in fact the limo driver is a secret member of the faction, might I point out that Chris Jericho was not on the stage with the rest of the Raw roster............
As far as Bryan goes, he is gone. It's not debatable anymore given that he is booking independent shows. However, WWE has a poll up on their website asking whether they should bring Bryan Danielson back. That seems odd, since no one else has ever gotten a poll like that. My gut says that Bryan is gone, but has been reassured that once things blow over and the situation can be deflamed, he will be brought back and put into a major storyline. It seems he would be a detractor of his former NXT breteren given the way he was written off and in light of John Cena's tweet, but either way, it should reassure WWE fans and Bryan Danielson fans alike that we have likely not seen the last of "The best wrestler in the world" in the WWE.
