In a surprise move the NHL has decided to suspend New York Islanders forward Michael Grabner two games for his hit on Carolina Hurricanes forward Nathan Gerbe.

Truthfully, when news broke Grabner was going to have a hearing with Brendan Shanahan, I was shocked.  While the hit was questionable, I admit, to me Grabner never raised his elbow or shoulder to deliver the hit.  It also appeared to me that Gerbe lowered his head right before the hit was delivered.

At the same time, Gerbe's smaller statue makes its easier to target his head without actually attempting to injure or not.

Don't get me wrong, headshots are wrong and are not called for. However, I don't see anything in the video or while watching the game that  warranted a two game suspension as it appears Grabner did not raise his elbow/shoulder to deliver the hit.

In other news the Islanders placed defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky on the IR with a concussion. Matt Donovan has his chance to shine and prove he belongs the NHL.  Make no mistake though, once Visnovsky is ready he will be slotted back in the line-up .
