According to a letter sent to NFL owners this week, should there be a lockout after the current collective bargaining agreement expires on March 3, leadership andand other high-ranking executives with the league will take pay cuts for the duration of the work stoppage.
Both Commissioner Goodell and lead labor negotiator Jeff Pash will reduce their salaries to $1 during any lockout. Currently Goodell had a base salary of $2.9 million in 2009, but with bonuses and other compensation it totaled $9.76 million. It is unclear if Goodell would forego all compensation methods or just his salary through the lockout.
Along with Goodell and Pash, bonuses for all league office staff will be paid out until April 2011, a timeframe after the current CBA expires. Other execs that will see deferred compensation until the labor issues is resolved includes holding back 10% of bonuses for all VPs, a 35% holdback for Exec VPs, and 25% holdbacks for Senior VPs.
