GJ Pick'em presented by Doc Sports is back and better than ever for the 2010-2011 season. This season is our second year doing the competition and we're really looking forward to getting it started. Doc Sports, a professional sports handicapper, jumped on board with us this season as the primary sponsor of the competition allowing us to provide more great prizes.
Before I get into what the prizes are going to be this season, here's a quick rundown on what GJ Pick'em is all about. GJ Pick'em is similar to a football pool that you would do at work or with a few buddies, except it's with NBA games. Each week Travis and I will come up with 10 NBA games that competitors will have to pick the winners of.
We'll keep updated standings, picks, etc. on the site so you can always check out how you are doing. At the end of each week we will tally up each persons total wins and at the end of the year the top three in the standings will win prizes. Simple as that.
Even if you don't neccesarily set the world on fire picking games, you still have a chance to win thanks to SupahFans. Kevin, over at SupahFans, has agreed to give away six of his SupahFans mascot t-shirts as door prizes that we will give away throughout the competition. At random, we'll enter all competitors into a hat and draw a winner for one of the shirts.
This year we are also adding a montly prize given to the best performer that given month. Because we want to give prizes to as many people possible there will not be repeat winners for the montly prizes.
The monthly prizes are going to be given out courtesy of Chris DeRoy at DeRoy Designs. Chris creates sports abstractions that are spectacular and each month he'll be giving one away to the person with the most correct picks that month. Ties will be broken by the person with the most correct picks up to date. Be sure to check out all of Chris' designs here, and if you can't wait until the start of the season send him a message and get one sent to you!
Now, onto the final prizes. The person with the third most correct picks throughout the season will recieve a $25 NBA Store gift card (this is the prize we gave out to 2nd place last year). Second place will recieve a $50 NBA Store gift card to use towards merchandise for your favorite team.
Last but not least, the winner ot the competition will recieve $100 towards tickets to an NBA game. This will come in the form of a $100 TicketMaster gift card, or a $100 StubHub gift card, whichever you prefer.
We are also going to be doing a special bloggers edition of GJ Pick'em this year. Bloggers from all your favorite NBA blogs will be competing with bragging rights on the line. Each blog will be represented by two representitives and the blog with the most correct picks at the end of the season will get a invaluable HTML ad on the Gino's Jungle website, and most importantly... bragging rights.
