Gamecock FB: WR Shaq Roland suspended two more games for "violation of the university policy"
Last week, South Carolina traveled to Central Florida without one of their top wide receivers in Shaq Roland.
As it turns out, Roland was left in Columbia because of a violation of athletics department policy. No other reports came out at the time of the initial news and when asked about it after the game, Coach Spurrier said he wasn't sure when Roland would return to the football team. He mentioned over the weekend that it wasn't related to drugs, an arrest, or an issue in class.
Fast forward to Tuesday's press conference and Coach Spurrier alluded to the fact that Roland will have his suspension extended for two more games and won't be eligible to return until the Gamecocks face Tennessee on October 19. Spurrier wouldn't elaborate as to why Roland was suspended other than say it was a "violation of university policy."
Roland is tied four fourth in receptions this season for South Carolina with eight catches and is second in receiving yards with 161. He had a touchdown in the season-opening win over North Carolina. Roland has started two of the three games he has appeared in this season for the Gamecocks.
