Even though the Gamecocks had a rough weekend, they still closed out Sunday on a high note.

Sunday night, Michael Scarnecchia tweeted out that he was an official commitment for the Gamecocks in the 2014 recruiting class.

This is kind of a surprise considering the Gamecocks low numbers in this recruiting class and how it appeared likely that local South Carolina product Bo Baldwin would likely be a greyshirt candidate for the Gamecocks in this class.

Scarnecchia is currently listed as a UAB commitment for the class of 2014, according to 247sports.com. Scarnecchia committed in July of 2013 to UAB as it was his lone listed offer so far. He also had interest in schools like Miami, South Florida, Vanderbilt, Miami and a few others. He's a two-star recruit on 247sports.com as well as a two-star ranked recruit on the 247sports.com Composite Index. He's currently listed as a pro-style quarterback and standing at 6-foot-3, and weighing 185 pounds.

It's definitely something interesting to watch here to see if this is truly an official commitment or if Scarnecchia will take a greyshirt and be a member of the Gamecocks in 2015. There's obviously something that the coaching staff has seen to feel he's worthy of an offer like this, even if it's a greyshirt, so he could be a player down the road that the coaching staff wants to mold and coach into their kind of quarterback.

Scarnecchia would be the Gamecocks 14th commitment of the 2014 class.
