Dexter Wideman made a surprising commitment to Florida State back in July of 2013.

Most people expected South Carolina to be his future college choice but FSU did enough to impress him over an unofficial visit in the middle of July that he made a commitment a few short days later.

Well, that FSU commitment lasted all the way until National Signing Day when, as most people expected, Dexter Wideman switched his commitment to South Carolina and signed with the Gamecocks.

Wideman is widely considered one of the best players in the state of South Carolina and he's a player who could start out as a defensive end but grow into a defensive tackle. He's a guy that is considered to have major upside based on his natural talent alone. The coaching staff will have to motivate and push Wideman to want to be better but he's someone you want on your team just because the potential is there.

The only downside to Wideman is there are some concerns with his academics. Its been said that he has a chance to qualify but some believe that a short stop in prep school may be in line for Wideman before enrolling at South Carolina.

Still, Wideman is a talent that South Carolina wanted and with some risk can come great reward.

The four-star defensive end chose South Carolina over Florida State, Florida, Clemson, LSU and a host of others.
