Two former Hawkeye basketball players are getting a new chance in life, albeit on a different continent.

TylerSmith, who played basketball at the University of Iowa beforetransferring to Tennessee, appears to be headed over to Turkey to testhis luck after settling weapons charges. Smith lost therest of his college career after pleading guilty to misdemeanor weaponscharges in January.

Smith was given two sentences of 11 months,29 days but was granted judicial diversion. As a result of the judgeâsruling, Smith did not have to serve jail time, assuming he steers clearof any legal issues over the next two years.

Smithâs agent, JaredKarnes, said Turkish team Bornova was willing to sign the troubledplayer to replace injured star Kedrick Brown.
