Yeah the Knicks won last night over the young Sacramento Kings 113-106. Yeah Amar'e Stoudemire played well 27 and 10 and Danilo Gallinari finally had a good game scoring 27 points. Yeah the Knicks snapped their 6 game losing streak last night. Yeah, yeah, yeah....so what? How about some defense on this Knicks team? In the 12 games the Knicks have played in this season they have held the opposing team under 100 points a grand total of 2 times....yes 2 times. Don't give me the excuse that's because of the "system." Screw the "system" you are supposed to coach to the players you have aka Pat Riley when he came to New York. He went from the Showtime Lakers to the hardcore defensive tough guys that were the 90s Knicks.
However, is it in fact time for Mike Antoni to go because there is no "D"?
I am not sure the time is now for D'Antoni to get fired. I'd give him to the end of 2010 to turn this around and then I'd give him the boot BUT if they go on another long losing streak before then I'd kick him to the curb. It's a little messed up they made him sit through two years of coaching the New York Expiring Contracts but I don't care about D'Antoni's feelings I'm a Knicks fan not a D'Antoni fan....so boo hoo.
Who would the Knicks hire? Herb Williams? No thank you. Herb you have been a loyal assistant coach, you were a great bench warmer and cheerleader throughout the 90s (When I was a kid I used to emulate the PA announcer calling your name when you made a basket "HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERB WILLIAAAMSSSS" but that only happened about 3 times in your Knick career) but I won't be excited if you are named the next coach.
Who do I want as the next coach if D'Antoni gets fired? JEFF VAN GUNDY!!
A few more loses for D'Antoni and you can bet you will be hearing Jeff Van Gundy chants from Knicks fans everywhere. The Knicks need a defensive minded coach and that is Jeff Van Gundy. The Knicks need a coach who coaches to the talent he has and not one that forces players to fit his "system" and that is Jeff Van Gundy. I was screaming for the Knicks to hire Avery Johnson but now he is with the Newark Backboards so bring back Van Gundy.
It will be tough to pull Van Gundy off the mic where he is histerical along side Mark Jackson. Although, I'm sure if Dolan wants him Dolan will give him tens of millions of reasons to get off the mic.
"JEFF VAN GUNDY!!!" clap, clap, clap, clap, clap "JEFF VAN GUNDY!!!" I think I'm going to have to start that chant at the next home Knicks game.
