The Boston Red Sox split their decisive four game series with the New York Yankees this past weekend. Now the Red Sox move onto Toronto, a team which the Red Sox need to beat.
The Red Sox have to stop playing sub 500 baseball, and if they want any chance of making the playoffs they need players other than Adrian Beltre and Victor Martinez to step up. The Rays have went into a bit of a slump, so with Youkilis out the Sox need to take advantage of the slumping Rays.
JD Drew and Mike Lowell are two guys that the Red Sox are going to need to have produce if they want a shot at the playoffs down the stretch. JD Drew has the ability to carry a team like he did in 2008 when Manny was being Manny.
If Mike Lowell can stay healthy and make some solid contact all of a sudden the loss of Youkilis does not hurt as much. This season may depend of guys like Drew and Lowell contributing because Victor Martinez and Adrian Beltre can’t do it all. If JD Drew and Mike Lowell can produce the Red Sox have a fighting chance especially with Dustin Pedroia on his way back.
