Long ago, in a stadium far far away.... In case you've sat idle all day today waiting to hear if Tim Cowlishaw's prediction about Darrelle Revis would be signed.... well, something kinda Big, but not really, happened with our beloved Miami Dolphins today, and its got everyone on 'the internets' all in a roar.
The basics?
We traded a former Undrafted Free Agent to the Minnesota Vikings for another former Undrafted Free Agent. So whats the big deal right? Well, it's a name you know. Its likely a name you Love. Its more likely its a name that may frustrate you. It's absolutely certain he's a fan favorite. The name? Greg Camarillo, Mr. Clutch.
So after another small "the sky is falling" bout, fans have rebounded. Although a little bit of disappointment lingers, its been replaced by something else. Dreams, Fairy Tales, Unicorns, Utopia..... those kinda things. And by those kind of things I mean, "Vincent Jackson."
If you haven't noticed by the pictures, VJack also wears the #83 on his jersey..... He's also apparently available for trade, Maybe; and not too long ago, fans of this team were dreaming, drooling over Brandon Marshall, but surely that wouldn't come true right? He's too much of a trouble maker.
Hell, I even went so far as to posting a April Fools joke on thephinsider.com about Brandon Marshall catching a flight to Miami, and arranging a meeting with the Front Office.... not only was the post a joke, but it was picked up by bloggers and major media personnel alike (the power of the internet people!) All the while, I was laughing my ass off. I had been one of the biggest advocates for Brandon Marshall, but I was certain that there was no way that he'd be dressed in aqua and coral. No Way. I was wrong.
Now, I stand even more firmly convinced. There is ABSOLUTELY no way that Vincent Jackson gets traded to the Miami Dolphins, and here is why:
- There are reports San Diego might not really be serious about trading him
- We just paid an enormous sum to Brandon Marshall & Karlos Dansby, and next year Chad Henne will need a new deal
- The price tag on him is a first round pick. We need that pick to draft a RB next season.
- If he goes for a 2nd round pick, we don't have one...and its doubtful that San Diego will take our 2012 second rounder.
- Oh yeah, to go along with #2 above, he wants a contract roughly the size of Brandon Marshall's deal.....
I'm quite certain I can come up with more reasons, but I figured I'd stop while I was ahead. The truth of the matter is that if somehow God waved his hand and Vincent Jackson found himself on our squad, we'd be instantly one of the top 3 passing attacks in the NFL. Probably #1. We'd be better than the Cardinals were with Larry Fitzgerald & Anquan Boldin, we'd be better than Manning with Harrison & Wayne....
You'd essentially be setting up the stage for a repeat of Dan Marino's run with Mark Clayton, and Mark Duper..... HOLY COW! am I talking myself into this? hmmm.. No, it's not going to happen.
It's a dream. It's a wish. But it won't happen. It's a match made in Never.... .unless ...

Charlize Theron or Alessandra Ambrosio shows up at my door tonight. Then maybe I'll be a believer in wishes.
