After the Dolphins completed finalizing their final 53 man roster, they still had some work today before the weekend was up.
They still had to fill their practice squad. They still had to watch the waiver wire, and once they decided that they wanted somone from the waiver wire, they had to make the decision on who to cut in place of the added player.
No, their weekend did not end with simply trimming their way down to the 53 man roster.
For starters, they terminated the contracts of veteran defensive ends, Marques Douglas, and Charles Grant, linebacker Charlie Anderson, and guard Cory Procter, and placed veteran cornerback Will Allen on the practice squad.
This left the team with some holes to fill on its roster.
To compensate for those losses, the Fins added inside linebacker Bobby Carpenter, who will contribute in passing situations and on special teams, Clifton Geathers and Rob Rose, two young and raw defensive ends, and Joe Reitz and Jermey Parnell, offensive lineman.
These moves, besides adding Carpenter, do not make sense to me. The team is cutting some of their most experienced and reliable backups for huge question marks that might not even make the roster next season, or make it through the whole season on the roster!
The Fins then filled their practice squad with the following players:
Jonathan Amaya, Chris McCoy, Ryan Baker, Austin Spitler, Ray Feinga, Julius Pruitt, and Nathan Overbay, a tight end.
The team now has three tight ends on the current roster.
