The Miami Dolphins had a somewhat stressful, and busy day on their hands after the events that took place during the late Monday practice.
Rookie linebacker A.J. Edds suffered a torn ACL injury during the evening practice on Monday. It was the second practice of the day for the team.
Even though the injury is very serious, and Edds will be out for the season, Edds came back to practice, with a sleeve on his leg.
Edds was expected to get some considerable playing time during his rookie year on 3rd downs, in passing situations. Edds was a standout in pass coverage during his tenure at Iowa University, and was expected to boost the Dolphins capability at defending the tight ends and running backs in coverage.
Not even a day later though, the Dolphins brought in someone to fill the empty roster spot that Edds left.
Undrafted free agent Micah Johnson, out of Kentucky was practicing with the team today in their only practice of the day.
Johnson is by no means a coverage specialist like Edds was. He instead is a workout warrior, and someone who can get to the quarterback, but because of his size, (6'2, 269 lbs) does not have great lateral movement.
Johnson will battle with the opposing lineman, and hold his own in the duels, but in the end he is just a camp body, and unless he can show that he is more than just a project and deserves a roster spot over fellow rookie and seventh round pick Austin Spitler and veteran J.D. Folsom, he will eventually hit the road.
