The Miami Dolphins have made it clear this off-season that they would like to improve in some areas on the gridiron.
Some may even call a theme to the off-season.
Plain and simple, the Dolphins are all about stopping the run now. This off-season, the Dolphins have not made a defensive pickup that was below average in stopping the run.
For instance, the Dolphins signed inside linebacker Karlos Dansby through free agency, who is one of the best at stopping the run. The Fins drafted defensive end Jared Odrick and outside linebacker Koa Misi as well.
In the past week, the team has only re-emphasized the theme for the off-season, stuffing the run.
When Phillip Merling went down for the season with a torn Achilles Tendon, the Fins did not hesitate to go out and find his replacement, in the form of Marques Douglas. Douglas' calling to fame is stopping the run, and that is what the Fins are looking for, with the teams in the AFC East all having viable ground games.
Today, the Dolphins also announced that they have agreed to a contract with Montavius Stanley, a nose tackle.
Stanley is 6'2, 302 pounds, and at nose tackle will provide depth for the Fins on the defensive line.
After the Fins moved Randy Starks to nose tackle, and Jason Ferguson retired, the team has been looking for some depth to help fill out the camp roster, and compete for a spot on the team.
The Dolphins also have Paul Solia as a backup as well.
As training camp is just around the corner, the Dolphins will continue to look for camp invitee's to bring in and compete. But one thing is for sure, they are looking for guys that can compete, and shut down the run on a consistent basis.
Without Ferguson coming back this season, depsite an 8 game suspension, it will make things harder on the Dolphins front seven to get the job done, but that is why they are bringing in all of these reinforcements, so they reinsure themselves that the job will get done, one way or another.
