Thanks to Bless You Boys' Kurt Mensching for posting the latest hot rumor that pertains to the Detroit Tigers.
Apparently, the Tigers, who are clinging to a minimal lead over Cleveland in the AL Central, are looking for more pitching.
OK. That makes sense. Detroit's bullpen has struggled. With the exception of Max Scherzer (13-1), the starting rotation has been fickle.
What would help with both? Well, adding San Francisco's two-time Cy Young winner Tim Lincecum would do the trick.
Fox Sports' Jon Paul Morosi recently linked the parties (via Mensching):
Multiple sources told me recently that some teams - the Tigers are one - have interest in acquiring Lincecum as a reliever for the stretch drive. Of course, that presumes that the Giants will become sellers at the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline. That's far from certain, even with a 43-50 record.
Lincecum is fresh off his first no-no, a 148-pitch performance during Saturday's 9-0 drubbing of the San Diego Padres. Nonetheless, San Francisco is struggling. And it owes part of a $22 million salary to The Freak, a free agent after this season.
