New York, NY - So I decided to continue my extended stay of watching TNA to see where this storyline on the new ‘they’ will go for the Thursday night show. I was curious to see if maybe the company was going to go back to that brand that I was hooked on, and would sit and watch on a nightly basis.
Curiosity would peak for me to see how this new ‘they’ would tie in with the Immortal group, and if the membership group that is in charge of the decisions will start to gear towards that brand that we were starting to enjoy. You know that brand that started to push Abyss in a good way, that brand that I was starting to get used too.
I don’t know if it was just me, but I felt like there were some interesting promos cut throughout the night. It would begin by the interaction between the newly re-joined to the roster Scott Steiner and Eric Bischoff. As Immortal would say how Kurt Angle was bluffing with this new group joining the company, while also trying to lure ‘The Genetic Freak’ to their side of the ring.
Cue in Kurt Angle and Crimson (massive-massive man) essentially saying that ‘they’ were in fact here and it is real-it is dam real. TNA would continue the build up to whomever this new group is back stage as the panic of the heel group Immortal would start to build.
In another sign of hopefully the company going back to that brand that I tuned into on a nightly basis, was the fact that the once very strong tag team division was on display as Ink, Inc. defeated the new duo of Gunner and Murphy (formerly TNA security).
One of the nice things about TNA as a brand before the Immortal take over, was the fact that the tag team division is proudly displayed and not hidden like in WWE, teams like Motor City Machine Guns, Beer Money, Ink Inc, Generation Me all part of a very bright tag division in TNA and it was nice to see them again.
Then TNA would have these creepy promos throughout the night of the ‘supposedly’ married Karen and Jeff Jarrett. These promos were enough to make my skin crawl; supposedly we are supposed to believe the duo is in love and are going to renew their vows. We will see what happens with this storyline as it forms.
On this night we saw the beginning of the feud of Bubba Ray, now known as Bully Ray and his former tag partner Devon Dudley. I think most professional wrestling fans have seen this former-tag partners turning on each other story before. Maybe a hardcore feud with the ECW alum combined with new partners Samoa Joe and ‘The Pope’ D’Angelo Dinero maybe a good thing for the brand. It may also help to re-establish Joe and Pope as two guys to watch for in TNA…I hope so.
For a second night the X-Division was proudly on display in TNA….this was one of the many reasons why I was soooo hooked on TNA. I think many pro wrestling fans will agree if TNA can find success with the high-flying, no-limits X-Division again the ratings will shortly follow.
Cut to a very interesting (and I thought) a well cut promo by A.J. Styles to Eric Bischoff saying how Fortune will not be taking a backseat to any new group that will invade TNA. Little did TNA fans know what surprised would be found towards the end of the show: cue evil laugh:
Back to the ring where we see another very well cut promo by both Ken Anderson (Annnnnnnnnnndersooonn) and Jeff Hardy, basically saying how the two are a like in spite of the feud. Both have the same dream and have accomplished that dream of holding the heavy weight strap. Mr. Anderson asked this once though for no interference from Immortal. Supposedly according to Mr. Hardy we will have one-on-one action on this night and the two shake hands.
Now as nice as all of these well cut promos are, the one thing that I used to enjoy about TNA was the fact that it truly lived up to its name. Sure it had some good promos, but for the most part it was good wrestling. But this one long time fan understands that nothing can really be done without a good story…so for now I will sit and wait things out.
TNA would continue to build on their positive momentum-type program actually getting back to in-ring wrestling with a ‘Knockouts’ match. But this wouldn’t be just any women’s match, but a taped fist match between Sarita and Mickie James.
If anyone wants to see a clinic on how a great women’s division should be run, then they will put this tape with these two great women wrestlers on as athleticism, grit and actual wrestling was on display. This is another thing that I always enjoyed about TNA the fact that they actually let the ladies go at it, and do it the right way. Now if only Beth Phoenix will change her mind about being in the WWE-wow what a division it would be.
The show would go to the main event match that featured the champ Mr. Anderson-Anderson and Jeff Hardy; the two would go at it outside the ring before finally getting into the ring. I don’t know if it just me, or the Jeff Hardy heel turn, but has Jeff’s ground game gotten better.
Just when we were reaching our climatic conclusion to a great one-on-one bout between these two friends/feuds, we cue in the traditional Immoral/Nexus (oops) beat down. But here is when our lovely TNA twist comes into play as the Fortune part of the Immortal group pulls the ultimate backstab.
As most fans of TNA’s jaws were on the ground A.J. Styles would proceed to do the ‘Styles Clash” finishing move on Jeff Hardy to help Anderson retain the heavyweight strap. Most rumor mills and even this writer had thought that the ‘They’ group that TNA was pushing would be the re-formation of the Main Event Mafia. With both Booker-T and Kevin Nash joining WWE and possibly Sting becoming a part of the rival brand the people behind the scenes needed a different direction.
This direction would be that Fortune would be tired of the lies of Immortal, and that they have decided not to take a back seat of anyone. They will now combine with the forces of Crimson, Angle and Anderson to be the new group that will challenge Immortal.
Before the night would end we would find a great-great exchange between Styles and Bischoff on TNA and how ‘Bish’ has been spending money on guys who didn’t deserve to be in TNA to begin with. I actually enjoy the fact that the company has decided to have two younger groups go at it, instead of relying on guys like Booker T. and Kevin Nash to do that type of work.
Personally I would like to see both Nash and Booker on SmackDown to help develop some of the young lions on that show. Who knows what the WWE will even do with these vets though, they may join up with the incoming sting to feud with the ‘New’ Nexus on Raw and hopefully get rid of the tired group.
I don’t know about everyone else but I think I am going to keep watching and see what will happen next. It should also be interesting as ‘supposedly’ on March 3, 2011 the fans of Impact may find out who will have full control of the company.
Personally I wonder if it is ‘rewarded’ to president Dixie Carter, that this is the company’s way of saying okay, we give up…we are going back to the programming that made us successful. The hybrid of what Hogan was doing and what Carter was doing was okay. If the company can continue to try to weave together an interesting story then they can expect ratings to soar. I know I am one fan that just may tune in next week to see what happens next.
