David Lee met with the Minnesota Timberwolves for nine hours on Saturday. He was seen at the Twins-Rays game at Target Field with Kurt Rambis and David Kahn.
Minnesota can't sign Lee if they don't trade Al Jefferson. I guess they made it clear to Lee that Jefferson will be traded.
They are saying a sign and trade is the best route to go. A three team trade that could work is sending Lee to Minnesota, Al Jefferson to Golden State, and Monta Ellis to New York.
Lee could be a great asset for the Timberwolves, who weren't expected to make much noise this Summer. He would start at power forward and move Kevin Love to center.
David Lee fits into Kurk Rambis's type of offense since I expect him to clone the triangle offense from Phil Jackson. He was an assistant under Jackson with the Lakers for awhile.
David Kahn is actually making a smart move for Minnesota trying to get David Lee. Kahn has turned the Timberwolves into the laughing stock of the NBA by how many dumb choices he has made.
Lee averaged about 20 points and 10 rebounds for New York last season. He has improved almost every season he has been in the NBA. If gets into the right system, he could turn into a superstar.
I think Kurk Rambis could revive the Timberwolves as a coach. If he persuades David Lee to Minnesota, I expect Minnesota to make the playoffs in a few years.
Getting David Lee in a Timberwolves uniform would be a step in the right direction for Minnesota.
