If you haven't heard by now, Rajon Rondo is on a one-way flight back to the United States of America. After prior reports that Rondo was cut from Team USA, the truth came out that Rondo actually withdrew from the team because of a family issue.
Our good friend at the Boston Globe, Julian Benbow, had some great quotes from both Danny Ainge and Rondo's brother Will on his Twitter page.
Ainge's response to Rondo withdrawing:
"You’re always worried about the injury factor and the getting worn down factor. Rondo played late into the season and it was a long season. He carries a pretty big load for our team. So I can’t say that I'm disappointed that he’s coming home."
Rondo's brother Will's response as to why Rondo may have withdrawn:
“That’s my mother’s brother and we’re a small family. I’m not sure how you put it in words. He was really close to my uncle. All of us were. Maybe it got overwhelming and he decided he needed to take some time away from basketball. You never know.”
It's too bad Rondo had to withdraw because of this, but it also proves that basketball is just a game. Family is real life.
