Dallas Stars Have Roster Moves Looming
With the expected return of veteran Vern Fiddler, the Stars will be looking to make a move to accommodate his roster spot. It was anticipated that Fiddler was going to return to the ice for one of the games against Colorado, but instead, he was placed on IR.
The thought was Colton Sceviour would be the odd man out when Fiddler returned, however, after scoring just 15 seconds after Jamie Benn netted the first goal of last night’s game against the Vancouver Canucks, Sceviour has proven that his AHL leading goal production is not just a product of playing in the lower league. He has been a spark every time he has stepped out on the ice, and as Bruce LeVine from The Ticket pointed out earlier this week, you just kind of sit back and wait for Colton to score when his number is called.
Since it will be very difficult for head coach Lindy Ruff to send Sceviour back to Austin, who then is the player to lose playing time with Fiddler scheduled to return to the lineup this Saturday when the Stars travel to San Jose? Today at practice, many observers pointed that Ryan Garbutt was absent from the on-ice practice, which caused the natural speculation. A source indicated to StarsInsider.com that Garbutt is batting a nagging injury or two, so I expect today’s post-practice press conference with Coach Ruff will indicate that Garbutt had a maintenance day. Ryan has been on the Stars most physical players, which is a trait that is sorely lacking on the Stars roster.
Coupled with his 5-game suspension for his hit on Anaheim’s Dustin Penner, I would suspect that Alex Chiasson, who has seen his point total chill to a Minnesota-like freeze, might get a night off here very soon. Alex has been very visibly upset with missed chances so perhaps watching a game or two might help the young Chiasson re-group and adjust his game.
