Daily Dip of Celtics news: August 24th, 2010
| Written by: bpaul @ Gino's Jungle

Since we launched Gino's Jungle in late September of 2009 we have attempted to get a Celtics link dump established not once, not twice, but three times. Needless to say, all of these attempts failed.

We've tried having a friend do the link dump, we tried letting an established NBA blogger do the link dump, and we even tried to do it ourselves. Fail, fail... and fail. But, you didn't think we'd give up that easy - did you?

Due to the fact there is absoloutely nothing else to write about today I'm going to throw a few links your way. I'm sure this proabably won't be something I do every day, but it's a good way to burn some time and give people out there some well deserved credit.

I'm going to stay with the most recent catch phrase for our links dump and call this "Your Daily Dip of Celtics news".

Celtics Town - Athletes Tweets, starring Antoine Walker’s attempted comeback

@Antoine Walker I love working out with Rick Pitino. He appreciates my quick shots.

@Isiah Thomas Can you believe the Knicks actually tried to hire me again?

@Dustin Johnson When’s the last time you saw the gallery standing in a bunker? SMH.

@Antoine Walker I’m taking my talents to South Beach diet. Lost between 18 and 25 pounds so far.

North Station Sports - Perk-dicament

Other than how Kendrick looks coming back from surgery, what about if Shaq is playing well?  Well, I assume that Shaq would be the starting center for a variety of reasons, beginning with Doc’s love affair with veterans.  But let’s say Shaq averages 13 PPG, 7 REBS and 1.5 blocks during his stint as starting center.  That is only slightly higher than his 12/6.7/1.2 line for last year in 23 minutes a game.  Last year Perkins averaged 10.1/7.6/1.7 in 27 minutes.  That is actually worse than Shaq’s line in four more minutes.

That may present a problem for Coach Rivers, especially if O’Neal comma Jermaine is doling out 12/7/1.2 in a backup capacity.  I would imagine that Doc could move JO to the four and then create another drama that would involve Glen Davis with the potential to get ugly.  There were already rumblings of locker room division last year, I could only imagine what sort of nonsense a move like that stir up.

Jessica Camerato (WEEI) - Antoine Walker trying to learn from mistakes

“Initially it was extremely, extremely tough for him,” Chico said. “He tried to go to Puerto Rico, try to get away from it, but it followed him there as well. That wasn’t good for his surroundings over there. … It was just a little bit too much negative publicity that the team didn’t want to deal with, and he understood that.”

It’s not an easy reality to accept, but Antoine understands the consequences of his mistakes. Instead of being a player who teams are rushing to snatch up for their proven experience, he is a veteran who has to prove he still has a place in the league.

Celtics Blog - Reserve Roles: Avery Bradley or Von Wafer?

Much like Wafer's defense is in question right now, Bradley's offensive game hasn't been explicitly explained just yet. Supposedly he can knock down open jump shots, but does he possess NBA three-point range? Is he a catch-and-shoot kind of guy? Does he shoot well off the dribble? Etc. We're not sure just yet, and the initial analysis praised his defense, for a specific reason. Right now, that appears to be the strongest part of his game. If he was a superb offensive player, or the next Ray Allen, or something like that, we would have undoubtedly heard about it by now. The same goes for Wafer and his defense. If he were great in that regard, we would know.

Red's Army - Eddie House will have his vengence

But Eddie's got other things to worry about... like himself.  his last season here in Boston was very un-Eddie like.  His FG% dropped from 44.5 to 40.1 in Boston (I'm excluding the Knicks numbers... which were much worse).  His 3pt FG% fell from 44.4 to 38.3.  If you want to move into the advanced stats, his effective FG% (adjusted to account for the fact that 3's get 1 more point than 2's) fell from 57.9% to 50%.

And there you have it... your Daily Dip for August 23rd, 2010. If you're interested in doing something like this for Gino's Jungle send us over an email at ginosjungle@gmail.com. The only requirement is dedication.
