Crouch Bags Hat-trick, Sets Up Epic San Siro Clash for Spurs

Peter Crouch grabbed a hat-trick on Wednesday night to earn Tottenham a 4-0 home victory over Young Boys Berne and secure the club's passage to the group stages of the UEFA Champions League.

England colleague Jermain Defoe grabbed the other goal to send the Spurs fans into delirium.

However, the good news did not stop there for the London club: the club was handed a dream group draw against Inter Milan, FC Twente and Werder Bremen.

Not only will Spurs fans look forward to visiting Milan to play in one of the world's iconic stadia against the competition holders, but they will also be confident that their team has enough quality, particularly on home soil, to pick up enough points to progress to the knockout rounds.

Although the performance at White Hart Lane in the second leg of their qualifying match was not stellar, Tottenham's strikers scored goals early enough to ease the tension of the fans and players alike.

Firstly, Peter Crouch beat the offside trap in the fifth minute to nod Gareth Bale's floated cross into the net at the back post.

Then, Bale created a second for Defoe, who was lucky not to be flagged for handball as he controlled and slammed the ball in off the near post with his left foot from 12 yards.

Despite Defoe skewing an easy chance wide to put the tie beyond the Swiss opposition before half-time, Bale completed a hat-trick of assists when his corner was headed in past goalkeeper Marco Wolffi by Crouch after an hour.

Crouch completed the scoring and his trio with a penalty in the last ten minutes, after Benoit Assou-Ekotto expertly put Gareth Bale through on goal, only for Senad Lulic to cynically bring down the Welshman.

Red card for Lulic, penalty for Crouch, job done.
