With only three races left in the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing season, John Force Racing driver Courtney Force is geared up for one of her favorite races on the circuit, the 29th annual Auto-Plus NHRA Nationals, Oct. 4-6 at Maple Grove Raceway where she will sport a one-of-a-kind pink Funny Car body in honor of breast cancer awareness month.
“I'm looking forward to the fact that I will be piloting a pink Funny Car this weekend, not only because it's fun driving a specialty car, but because it’s for a good cause, in hopes of bringing awareness to breast cancer research. I loved getting to put in my opinion of how I wanted my car to look when going ‘all pink,’ and I think the fans will love it too. I hope we can get this pink breast cancer awareness Traxxas Funny Car right into the winners circle this weekend,” said Force.
Last year in Reading, Force picked up bonus point throughout qualifying and posted a career-best ET on Saturday when she ran a 4.028 second run, shooting her up to the No. 5 spot going into Sunday with lane choice.
“I've been looking forward to the Reading race since the start of the season. This is one of the tracks that you can put stellar numbers on the board and break records. I can't wait to see what our Traxxas Ford Mustang Funny Car is capable of this year. We qualified well at Maple Grove Raceway last year, but had a tough first round matchup,” said Force.
So far in 2013, Force has claimed victory at two national events in Pomona, Calif. for the Winternationals where she was also No. 1 qualifier, and the Inaugural event in Epping, N.H. She has qualified in the top five at nine different events.
“I love having back to back races because you can get into a good rhythm as a driver and team, but being that this is the last of the four in a row, I'll be excited for a little break from traveling and having time to regroup before Vegas. We've got a good race car, and with Ron Douglas and Dan Hood tuning it, I think we are capable of going after a win this weekend to finish off this four- in-a-row streak on a high note,” said Force.
The 25-year-old is currently No. 7 in the Mello Yello point standings for Funny Car after moving up one spot last weekend in St. Louis.
“The points are so close together and with three races left, a lot can change. We've moved down then back up so I'm really hoping we can keep climbing from here on out. We have high hopes of how we can finish this season and definitely still have our eyes set on that championship. With enough focus and determination, anything can happen, so we are going to keep striving for it,” said Force.
