Cory Rasmus is on the Angels' Major League roster. The club designated RHP Billy Buckner for assignment today, and called up Rasmus, a right-hander and former #1 Draft Pick by the Atlanta Braves. Rasmus was acquired by the Angels on July 29 in the Scott Downs trade.
In 3 big league games with the Braves earlier in 2013, Rasmus compiled an 8.10 ERA in 6 2/3 innings pitched.
On the day Rasmus was traded to the Angels, Jerry Dipoto changed Cory's flight schedule, as Cory and his fiance', Jillian Mathis, were set to get married. They promptly got married in the courts in Gwinnett, Georgia.
Jillian just happens to be the sister of former Angels' catcher Jeff Mathis.
Rasmus (age 25) was picked in 2006 as a promising starting pitcher; however, due to a collarbone injury that caused him to miss the rest of the 2011 season, he has since been converted to a reliever.
Rasmus has good stuff (strikeout stuff) and if all goes well, he could find himself a fixture in the Halos' bullpen. This could be a key piece in reloading the pitching staff for 2014.
No photo of Rasmus in an Angels uniform was available at the time of this post. When a photo comes up, we will make the proper adjustment.
