The latest addition to the Detroit blueline, Mike Commodore, is considering styling #64 in homage to the clunky yet productive computer of the 1980s. Revolutionary when it came out in 1982, so were the Illitches when they bought the Red Wings that same year.

 

The '80s for the Wings were also quite clunky. Yes, we had the turn around with Steve Yzerman, as he is doing as GM in Tampa Bay, but the club was hurting. In 1983-84 and 1984-85 seasons, Detroit made the playoffs but lost in the first round each season. The Red Wings earned only 40 points in 1985-86 finishinglast overall in the NHL. The turn came in 1988-89, when the 21-year old Yzerman set team records for goals, assists and points with 65 goals, 90 assists and 155 points and gave the Detroit captain the highest point...
