Bellator MMA has been on a role as of late signing former talents of there top competition that being the UFC. Today Bellator MMA has announced that they have officially signed former UFC Heavyweight contender Cheick Kongo.
Kongo's contract was up after UFC 159 where he lost to Roy Nelson via knockout. Kongo was with the promotion for a number of years holding victories over Pat "HD" Barry, Shawn Jordan and Matt Mitrione.
Kongo spoke to the press about his final days in the UFC saying
"After my contract was up in the UFC, I really wanted to take some time and reflect on everything,” Kongo said. “After talking to the people around me, especially someone like my longtime friend in Rampage, he told me how well Bellator has been treating him and what we can do with Bellator, and after getting to know Bjorn Rebney, it just seemed like the right fit for me. I know I have plenty of fight left in me, and my fight in October is the first step to getting that Bellator Heavyweight Title.”
Bellator MMA also announced that Cheick Kongo will be making his Bellator MMA debut this coming September as he will be taking part in there Heavyweight Tournament in Season 9.
