Thanks to Labor Day cookouts and all that good stuff I'm a day behind on ESPN Boston's Celtics Summer Forecast. Yesterday, Chris Forsberg kicked off the third and final week of the series by asking the panel of eighteen bloggers this question: Who will be the Celtics MVP?
Here is my answer to the question I believe was the easiest to answer thus far in the series:
Brandon Paul, Gino's Jungle (Rajon Rondo)
As the days go by, it is becoming clearer that the Celtics are transforming into "Rondo's team." Whenever Rondo is on the court he makes the guys he's playing with look so much better. That type of player can't go unnoticed and can not be replaced. For that reason, I think it's safe to say he is the most valuable part of this Celtics team.
Last season Rondo was the clear-cut MVP for this squad, and I don't see any reason to believe he won't be that guy once again this season. After getting cut withdrawing from Team USA and losing in Game 7 of the NBA Finals, Rondo has more motivation than ever to succeed.
If this team didn't have Rajon Rondo at the point they would be lost. Completely lost. Nobody on the squad - scratch that - nobody in the league could play point guard for the Boston Celtics like Rajon Rondo has and will.
You can argue that Kevin Garnett's defensive mindset is most valuable to the team, but be real here. I'm not trying to knock KG's defensive impact, but the Celtics did make it to Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals without Garnett. Do you think the Celtics could have made it as far as they did last season without Rondo? Uh uh.
Be sure to head over to ESPN Boston to check out what the rest of the panel had to say. You won't find a lot of people disagreeing with what you just read here!
