Slowly but surely it is starting to dawn on me that the start of the Celtics season is on our doorstep. I as well as many (if not all) Celtics fans have been waiting for Tuesday since Game 7 of the NBA Finals. We are ready to get a new season underway, put the last season behind us, and start a new pursuit for Banner 18.
And what better way to get it started then against the mockery in Self Beach? Lets kick off the season with the Eastern Conference Champions vs. Wannabe Eastern Conference Champions. Or how about The Real Big 3 (now Big 5) vs. The 3 Prima Donnas.
BUT, there isn't much going on surrounding this game yet. The preseason has to finish up tonight, the ALCS and NLCS have been going on, and the Patriots have a pretty big game in San Diego on Sunday. There isn't much room to talk and hype up the game in the mainstream media yet.
Give it until Monday and this game will be all you hear about. Although the coverage of the game is on TNT, not even ESPN will be able to ignore it. It is far to big of a game for the worldwide leader in sports to sweep it under the rug like it doesn't exist.
Its the start of 2 new eras. Its the start of the Lebron / Wade / Bosh era in Miami, and the rejuvinated veterans era in Boston. Lets face it, the Celtics are a new team this year. They are determined in a way we haven't seen for the past 2 years. All the players, but Kevin Garnett specifically have a new look on their face.
If you don't know already, opening night going to be a doozy. This game isn't a regular season game, its a statement. No matter how much Rondo tries to down play it...
“For me, it's not motivation. I could care less if people hype it up. I feel like we have the best team. We have yet to prove it, obviously, because we haven't played yet, but we're a self-motivated team. We don't need the attention. We just go out there and play. We could care less if every game we play is on TV or not. We're going to try to represent and play as hard as we can each night.
Both teams have extra motivation in this game whether they will admit it or not. I don't believe for one second that the Celtics don't want to beat the piss out of Miami specifically. It's all down play, but once 7:30 pm comes on Tuesday night, both teams will be playing like it is a pivotal game in the NBA Finals. What an exciting way to set the anticipation for a new Boston Celtics season, as if we wouldn't have enough anyway.
