News came down today that Brook Lopez fractured the fifth metatarsal in his right foot and is expected to miss the remainder of the regular season.
Lopez had been averaging a career high 20.7 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.8 blocks during his 17 game stretch -- now the Nets have to figure out how to step up and replace Lopez's production.
This isn't Lopez's first major foot injury -- as he missed time during the 2011-2012 lockout shortened season and last season as well.
According to Mike Mazzeo of ESPNNewYork.com, Lopez, 25, was in company with LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Chris Paul, Kevin Love and LaMarcus Aldridge for having one of the highest PERs this season.
The major question becomes now what? Go with that they have? They still have Kevin Garnett, Andray Blatche and Andrei Kirilenko to hold the fort down at the center spot.
Deron Williams, Joe Johnson and Paul Pierce have to step their games up even more in this 9-17 team has any chance of making the playoffs.
Or somehow do they over exert themselves into a trade getting a big man in return knowing they don't have much in value.
Centers like Omer Asik and even Pau Gasol have been mentioned in trade rumors for weeks but it remains to be seen if any of those teams make a move and if the Nets are in play for any of those.
