After being involved in an incident at lap 21, which knocked the fan off of his Mustang, Brandon McFerran would fail to finish the Mini Stock feature on Sunday afternoon at Sunset Speedway.
Qualifying for the Velocity 250 Mini Stock Feature kicked off on the Saturday with McFerran finishing second in both of his heats. As a result, McFerran would be the fourth quickest qualifier. However, with Butler rolling a nine for the invert, McFerran would start sixth in the feature.
McFerran would drop back to seventh after being passed by Justin Holmes on the initial start. However, when Butler spun on lap nine and drew the first caution, McFerran was able to move back up to sixth.
Once the green flag flew once again, McFerran would battle side-by-side with Charlie Smith for the fifth position and they continued their battle till trouble struck on lap 21. Smith’s right front wheel would fall of his neon and McFerran would run over the wheel, catching air and hitting the outside turn four wall. The contact with the wall would knock the fan off and McFerran would pull his Mustang behind the pit wall. A video of the incident has been posted by fellow mini stock driver Warren Paxton and can be viewed at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FgM-d_cKLUU&feature=share.
An effort was made to get the fan back on before the field went back to green, however they would come up short. Special thanks to Kevin Bridge, Paxton’s team and others for helping in trying to get back out on track.
