Step back from the ledge people.
It's wasn't pretty early on but the Hawks settled down and won their first game of the season. After three games their record stands a 1-1-1 and 3 points.
After giving up a goal off the opening faceoff just 14 seconds into the game the Hawks came back and won 4-3 against one of the best goalies in the world, Ryan Miller.
Trailing 2-0 less then three minutes into the game things settled down and the Hawks scored the next 4 goals. Patrick Kane got his first of the season, in front of his hometown crowd, on the power play in the first period. Next up was rookie Nick Leddy who scored the first of his career to tie things up. After that it was the Marian Hossa show getting his second of the year with just over a minute left in the second period putting the Hawks ahead for good and then for insurance scored his second of the game, unassisted, and third of the season 3 minutes into the third.
After allowing those two early goals the defense and goalie Corey Crawford and the defense settled down. Crawford stopped 32 of the 35 shots he saw which is good enough 91.4%.
Bryan Bickell continues to stay active after scoring a goal in each of the first two games he tallied an assist on Hossa's first goal. I think he is really going to surprise people this season.
The biggest concern coming out of the game will be how long the Hawks will be without the serves of Niklas Hjalmarsson who got a game misconduct penalty for boarding Jason Pominville 5 minutes into the second period.
Blackhawks next play Wednesday, in a rematch of the first round, against Nashville. I would expect Jordan Hendry to return to the ice with Hammer likely serving a short suspension.
