If you have listened to the Celtics Late Night Show at all this year you probably know about my man crush on Glen "Big Baby" Davis. Ever since this season started I have been on the Big Baby bandwagon demanding more respect for the big fella.
Throughout his career I think that us Celtics fans have taken Big Baby for granted. He isn't a guy that will take over a game or hit a game winner (well, except for that one time), but he is a guy that I would consider irreplacable.
In three games so far this season, Glen is averaging 14.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. Keep in mind that he is doing this off the bench, and doing it during clutch moments of games when the team needs it most.
Did I mention he never does it easy? This guy works hard for what he gets. Diving for loose balls, working for hard "and one's", and earning his way to the free throw line are all on Big Baby's resume.
So far this season his hard work is paying off for him and he is starting to already get mentioned in the running for the league's sixth man. But wait, he may not be a sixth man here for a few games. Why? Because he is once again going to be accomadating the way he plays to fit the role of starting center.
With Shaquille O'Neal more than likely out for a few games and Jermaine O'Neal without a return date, Glen will more than likely get the starting nod in the Celtics next game. Because of his ability to accept whatever role the team gives him, he will more than likely succeed in a starting role and continue to prove his worth.
How many guys in the league could continue to adjust to new roles like BBD? I would like to think none. Big Baby is clearly one of a kind.
