Let's see if I understand this.
Beltran gets traded to the Giants....he never says a word about the Mets.
Beltran signs with the Cards, goes to the Fall Classic....never says a word about the Mets.
Beltran signs for three years with the Yankees.......Now the Mets handled him the wrong way and he felt "angry"( according to ESPN)
Hey, it's a stock answer for Beltran now that his paycheck has pinstrips going across it. What do you expect him to say? After all, it was common knowledge that the Mets were always his second choice.
Hell, it was even know that he would have given the Yankees a break if he could sign with them.
So now he sits atop a podium with the Yankee logo behind him ripping the Mets about how they handled his knee injury. Seriously, the way the Mets were back then, and their track record since, I don't doubt it to be true.
But what else do you expect Beltran to say when he just got his dream team to give him THREE years at a 45 million. I mean really, he must be thanking his lucky stars when he is, at 37, literally staring at the end of his career. I'm not saying that he's done, but realistically...do you think he's got three great years left in him?
And looking at the Yankees now, they have a lot of DH's and not enough youth.
But that's their problem.
However, now it's time for the Mets to handle this situation like the Yankees handled theirs a few weeks ago when their star ex-center fielder "The Grandyman" took a cool 60 million from the Amazin's. You can remember that statement right? The "true New Yorkers are Mets fans." A slap in the face if I ever saw one one. But the Yankees handled it in stride and just wished Granderson good luck and God Speed.
It's time for the Mets to do the same with Beltran. It's time for the Mets to stay classy and wish Beltran good luck.
Knowing Beltran and his history with injuries......they are going to need it.
